Fitting

Great Mask!

I have been on CPAP for well over 15 years. Over the years I have had other health issues arise that has made using the CPAP machine slightly uncomfortable. However, I cannot go a night without my PAP device. Over the last 5 years I have been struggling with the same mask, the nasal pillows mask goes direct into my nose and as the pressure increases to treat my apneas the air escapes from my eyes. This leaves me with terribly dry mouth. My Dr recommended a full face mask, which my previous DME supplier sent me the F20 but since I am only 5ft and 120lbs the cushion and frame is far too big for my face, leaving me with tons of leaks.
I called into CPAPman frustrated and defeated and spoke to a lovely medical rep who was able to assist me with the issue I was having. She listened to the issue and stated she had dealt with patients like me in the past. She recommended the dreamwear full face mask. After walking me through how to measure, I ended up needing a Small frame and small cushion. Once I received it, I had my very first night where I did not wake up in the middle of the night due to leaks and my dry eyes weren't as bad. I did call CPAPman back and the same rep advised me to also speak to my sleep specialist to review my compliance data to see what my pressures are and see if the max pressure could be lowered. I had NO idea my machine could give data to my DME office and they could make changes remotely. Once the pressure was lowered from 20cmH20 to what I needed which was 13cmH2O, my dry eyes vanished, no leaks, and I am sleeping right through the night! I have since transferred over to CPAPman and so glad I did, they saved me!

DreamWear Full Face CPAP Mask - Philips

This is a great mask. I sleep all night with it and it does not bother me. Put the cloth covers over the breathing tubes that run down your face so you won't wake up with lines on your face. It is easy to keep clean as well. The mask is easy to take on and off, even in the dark at night. With the magnetic clips it is easy to get it back on without turning on the lights. Initially I bought a pack with multiple masks/frames and found that the small frame and medium mask worked best. With the adjustable straps it is easy to get a great fit that doesn't leak. I do only sleep on my sides and back though, which is good since lying face down with this on probably would not work well. I definitely recommend it.

I have been using a CPAP machine for over 20 years now. I have learned over time that my delivery system needs change with time. What was perfect a few years ago doesn't work as well for me today. So, from time to time, I experiment with different delivery systems to see if there is a more comfortable and/or a more effective solution. I have been really pleased with Respironics products over the years and decided to see if, once more, a full face mask was a better solution than the nasal pillows I have been using the last 5 years or so.

The mask is an easy fit and very comfortable for me. The top of the head air connection works very well. It's out of the way and non-obtrusive. It is really easy to get in and out of and does not leave one searching for a clasp in the middle of the night. However, with all the positives and with really no complaints about the fit, the quality and the effectiveness of the mask, I still find the full face mask to be a less comfortable solution than the nasal pillows. This is the third time I have experimented with a full mask and I must say this is by far the best of the three. However, I still find the pillows more comfortable over a full night. I will probably try it again sometime in the future as there is no need for a chin strap when using the mask. I fine that very appealing.

Also this is a good time to say I have also been very pleased with CPAPman's service since my first purchase from them over 20 years ago.

I can ware the nasal mask, because it feels like I'm suffocating whenever my mouth opens. The fuel face helps even with a beard, and I do have to ware it a bit snug, but no problems with leaks. I also love the hose adapter swivel on the top, no more waking up with the hose wrapped around my neck.
